Approved and proposed facilities (Oct. 19th-20th)

The observational data gathered by state-of-the-art astrophysical facilities provide our primary source of information towards a better understanding of interstellar physics, in our Galaxy and beyond, opening up new regions of discovery space through increased sensitivities, angular and spectral resolutions, and survey speeds.

This workshop will focus on the currently approved instrumental facilities that are to become available to the community in the near future, and the ones that are still on the path towards selection by funding bodies, in a longer term setting. Facilities covered in invited talks will include JWST, LUVOIR, LiteBIRD, OST as well as the sample return missions for space missions and APEX, ELT, PILOT/COPILOT, and SKA for ground based observatories. Furthermore, we will select contributed presentations covering other facilities.

Overall, the purpose of the workshop is threefold :

  1. To present currently approved and proposed facilities to the community, their capabilities and key projects
  2. To discuss their science cases, with an emphasis on those relating to the interstellar medium in the Milky way and external galaxies.
  3. To identify the actions already underway or to be undertaken in order to best prepare for them, whether from the point of view of simulations, models, or laboratory experiments.
